Home sales are on the rise in Florida, but house prices are still seeing downward pressure in a state hit hard by the foreclosure crisis.
Existing-home sales rose 3% in May with 17, 288 homes sold, up from 16, 790 homes in May 2010 while existing-condo sales climbed 17% with 8,338 units sold statewide, up from 7,104 units the year before, according to Florida Realtors.
Median sales prices on existing single-family homes declined 5% to $135, 500 from $142, 900.

The Professional Builder 2011 Housing Giants report is out. We decided to take a peak to see if any Atlanta home builders are amongst the nation’s 225 largest builders, and here is what we found.

Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced today that the South Texas Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (STCADA) received federal funding from a Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant in the amount of $893,614. In addition to the HUD grant, Webb County District Attorney Chilo Alaniz and Sheriff Martin Cuellar both contributed $48,667 each and Mr. Javier Santos, on behalf of the Fernando A. Salinas Trust, contributed $50,691 bringing the total amount of funding for the project to $1,041,639.
The funds will support the “Next Step Project” which aims to provide permanent supportive housing for the chronically homeless as they transition into self-sufficiency.

Sabal Palm, the land at the center of public corruption charges against three city officials, is under new management and closer to evolving from a defunct golf course into a community of single-family homes and townhouses.
The land was owned by father-and-son developers Bruce and Shawn Chait, who sold it for $7.3 million last month to 13th Floor Investments in Miami, according to Broward County property records.
